Cleaning your Vitamix is an essential part of maintaining its longevity and efficiency. Over time, residue from blending can build up on the blades, container, and base, which can affect the performance of the blender. A deep clean is necessary to remove any buildup and keep your Vitamix in top condition.
To deep clean your Vitamix, you’ll need a few supplies, including white vinegar, baking soda, dish soap, a soft pot scrubber, and a microfiber cloth. Before you begin, make sure your Vitamix is unplugged and disassembled. Once you have everything you need, you can start the cleaning process.
Cleaning your Vitamix may seem like a daunting task, but with the right supplies and a little know-how, it can be a quick and easy process. By following a few simple steps, you can keep your Vitamix running smoothly for years to come.
Gathering Supplies
When it comes to deep cleaning your Vitamix, you’ll need to gather a few supplies to get the job done right. Here are the three main things you’ll need:
Cleaning Solution
The first thing you’ll need is a cleaning solution. There are a few different options when it comes to what you can use to clean your Vitamix, but here are a few popular choices:
- White vinegar: Mix one cup of white vinegar with warm water and let your Vitamix soak in the solution for several hours or overnight.
- Baking soda: Mix baking soda with water to make a paste and use it to scrub the inside of your Vitamix.
- Dish soap: Add a few drops of dish soap to warm water and let your Vitamix soak in the solution for several hours.
Tools
Next, you’ll need a few tools to help you clean your Vitamix effectively. Here are a few things you’ll want to have on hand:
- Soft pot scrubber: Use a soft scrubber to help remove any stubborn residue inside your Vitamix.
- Cleaning brush: A small cleaning brush can help you reach all the nooks and crannies inside your Vitamix.
- Microfiber cloth: Use a microfiber cloth to wipe down the outside of your Vitamix and remove any fingerprints or smudges.
Materials
Finally, you’ll need a few materials to protect your work surface and help you soak your Vitamix. Here are a few things you might want to use:
- Deep Sink: Use a kitchen sink to soak your Vitamix in your cleaning solution.
- Towels: Place towels underneath your Vitamix to protect your work surface from any drips or spills.
- Plastic wrap: Cover your Vitamix with plastic wrap to help keep your cleaning solution from evaporating too quickly.
With these supplies on hand, you’ll be ready to deep clean your Vitamix and get it looking like new again.
Disassembling the Vitamix
To deep clean your Vitamix, you DO NOT need to disassemble it. I have owned my Vitamix for 15 + years and have never disassembled it. Why you may ask? This is because if you, clean and maintain your Vitamix, every time you use it like I do, you will never need to Disassemble it. Watch this video to see how I clean and maintain my Vitamix, no matter which container I use.
The blade assembly in the Vitamix container is torqued to a specific tightness at the factory, that you and I are likely unable to achieve with equivalent accuracy. If it came loose, then I would claim it on your warranty, since they treat the container & blade as a single non-user-servicable element.
I like that I DO NOT need to disassemble my Vitamix container from the blade. This aspect of the product is a fantastic feature of the Vitamix blender, unlike the cheaper blenders that are a total pain to clean since you have to disassemble, clean, let dry, reassemble, with every use. The “self-cleaning” (blend w/ soapy water) is problem-free 100% of the time. If you follow this method of mine even when you make nut butters that are really a thick mixture, you will never have a problem keeping your Vitamix containers sparkling clean.
Watch this video of mine to see how I clean my Vitamix pitcher, even when I blend sticky stuff in it like almond butter
However, if you really feel you need to disassemble it yourself, you should know that excellent warranty that Vitamix offers on its blender will not be valid. Please remember, the blade and bearings are press fit in and most customer couldn’t get it out without doing some damage, much less attempt to replace it.
Here is a Video that you can watch to see how to dismantle your Vitamix blade from the container, if you need to change the blade.
It’s important to note that the blade assembly should be handled with care. The blades are sharp and can cause injury if mishandled.
Cleaning the Container
Cleaning the container of your Vitamix is an essential part of maintaining its performance and longevity. Here’s how I deep clean my Vitamix container:
Pre-Cleaning
Before deep cleaning, I rinse the container with warm water and a drop of dish soap. Then, I use a soft-bristled brush to remove any remaining residue or stains. After that, I rinse the container thoroughly with warm water and dry it with a clean towel.
Deep Cleaning
For deep cleaning, I use one of the following methods:
Method 1: Vinegar Soak
- Fill the container halfway with warm water.
- Add one cup of white vinegar to the water.
- Let the container soak in an upright, standing position for several hours or overnight.
- Pour out the contents and use a soft scrubber to clean the remaining residue.
Method 2: Baking Soda Scrub
- Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with warm water to make a paste.
- Apply the paste to the container and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Use a soft scrubber to clean the container, paying extra attention to any stubborn stains.
- Rinse the container thoroughly with warm water.
I recommend deep cleaning your Vitamix container once a month or as needed, depending on usage. Remember to always rinse the container thoroughly and dry it before storing.

Cleaning the Blades
Pre-Cleaning When You Have Sticky Ingredients
Before deep cleaning the blades of your Vitamix, it is important to pre-clean if you have made sticky nut butters, chutneys or sauces. Turn off your Vitamix and unplug it from the electrical outlet. If you’ve just made nut butter for example then don’t go straight to washing your blender. Make a smoothie with what remains in the container, like I have done here . This helps with deep cleaning and hand-washing and you’ve got yourself a tasty drink while you clean. You can do the same when making chutneys – you can add coconut milk or water and blend the remains before you wash. You can used the blended coconut milk/water and chutney in your curry.
Deep Cleaning
To deep clean the blades of your Vitamix, we recommend pouring one cup of white vinegar into the container and filling it half-full with warm water. Let the container soak in an upright, standing position for several hours or even overnight. Pour the contents out and use a soft pot scrubber to clean the inside of the container. Be careful while cleaning around the blade assembly as the blades are sharp.
Alternatively, you can also use a drop of dish soap and warm water to clean the blades. Fill the container with warm water and add a drop of dish soap. Set the Vitamix to run on a cleaning cycle. Rinse the container after, and you will have a sparkling clean Vitamix container.
It is important to note that you should never submerge the entire blender base in water. Only the container, lid, and blade assembly are dishwasher safe. The blender base should only be wiped clean with a damp cloth.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your Vitamix is properly cleaned and maintained, which will help it last longer and perform better.

Cleaning the Base
Pre-Cleaning
Before starting the deep cleaning process, I make sure to pre-clean the base of my Vitamix. I unplug the blender and wipe down the base with a damp cloth to remove any loose debris or residue. I also remove any excess food or liquid that may have spilled onto the base during blending.
Deep Cleaning
To deep clean the base of my Vitamix, I use a soft cloth or sponge and a mild cleaning solution. I mix a small amount of dish soap with warm water and dip the cloth or sponge into the solution. I then gently scrub the base of the blender, taking care to avoid getting any water or cleaning solution into the electrical components.
After scrubbing the base, I rinse the cloth or sponge with clean water and wipe down the base again to remove any soap residue. I then dry the base with a clean towel or let it air dry.
It’s important to note that the base of the Vitamix should never be submerged in water or placed in the dishwasher. Doing so can damage the electrical components and potentially void the warranty.

Reassembling the Vitamix
Once the Vitamix is thoroughly cleaned, it’s time to reassemble it. Here are the steps I follow:
- First, I make sure that all the parts are completely dry. You can leave the parts out to air dry for a few hours or you can use a dish cloth and dry the parts.
- Next, I place the container to the motor base. I line up the arrows on the container with the arrows on the motor base and twist it clockwise until it clicks into place.
- Finally, I check to make sure everything is securely in place before using the Vitamix again.
It’s important to note that reassembling the Vitamix properly is crucial for safe and effective use. If any parts are not secured correctly, it could result in damage to the machine or even injury to the user.
Overall, cleaning and reassembling the Vitamix is a simple process that only takes a few minutes. By following these steps, you can ensure that your Vitamix stays in top condition for years to come.
